Why celebrate Republic Day?
The Constitution of India was implemented in the year 1950. This day was made to become an independent republic and to establish the rule of law in the country. The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949. Then on 26 January 1950, the constitution was implemented with a democratic government system. So the Indian Constitution came into force after 2 years 11 months 18 days. India was declared a full republic on this day.
When was the Republic Day celebrated for the first time in India?
Republic Day was celebrated for the first time in India on 26 January 1950. The flag was hoisted on this day by the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. He was given a 21-gun salute. With this India was declared a full republic. Republic Day is celebrated in the country every year since then on 26 January.
This time Republic Day 2022 will be different. The Republic Day program will start from 23rd January i.e. Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti. Until the last few years, it used to start from January 24. This time even the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate will not burn. The reason for this is that it has been merged into the National War Memorial.

At that time India’s independence from British rule was declared. Earlier, Independence Day (15 August 1947) was celebrated on 26 January till independence. After this this date was chosen as Republic Day.

Along with this, the Governor of the respective states hoists the national flag in the Republic Day celebrations in the state capital.
