History of Guru Ravidas Jayanti
Guru Ravidas ji was born on Magha Purnima. This is the reason why his birth anniversary is celebrated on Magha Purnima according to the Hindu calendar.
Guru Ravidas was born in 1377 at Manduadih in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He was an Indian mystic, poet, social reformer, and spiritual leader. During the Bhakti movement, he made remarkable contributions in the form of devotional songs, verses, spiritual teachings. 40 poems are written in his Adi Granth. It is a holy scripture of Sikhism.
Guru Ravidas Ji actively opposed the caste system. His view was to promote communal harmony and spiritual freedom. He always supported equality. The birthplace of Ravidas Ji holds special significance for all his followers. He was also Mira Bai’s spiritual guide.
