Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti 2022: Shivaji Bhosale (1630-1680 C.E.) was the ruler who founded the Maratha Empire. He got the title of a great warrior king of the Marathas. He was born in 1630 in Junnar city of Pune district of Maharashtra. His father was Shahaji Bhosale and mother was Jijabai. Shivaji Bhosle has been given the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Many scholars have different views about Shivaji. His birth was proposed by a group on February 19, 1630. The other proposed 6 April 1627 as the date of birth of Shivaji. For a long time, the date of February 19, 1630, was accepted by the Government of Maharashtra as Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti 2022: Shivaji Bhosale (1630-1680 C.E.) was the ruler who founded the Maratha Empire. History and heroic story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Whenever there is talk of the Maratha Empire, the name of Shivaji Maharaj comes to the fore. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the founder of the Maratha Empire. He was a brave, intelligent, and fearless Maratha ruler. He was also very religious, so in his childhood, he was very fond of reading Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Shivaji Maharaj was born in the Shivneri Fort of Pune. His father Shahji Bhosale was the commander of the army of the Sultan of Bijapur. As a child, his grandfather Maloji Bhosale taught politics and war tricks. The same mother Jijabai gave the knowledge of religious texts to Shivaji. Shivaji used to play the game of fortification with his friends from the age of 15.
With the increasing age of Shivaji Maharaj, the responsibilities of advancing the Hindu and Maratha empires also came. This responsibility made Shivaji powerful and intelligent. Shivaji Maharaj started fighting at the age of 17. During that time Veer, Shivaji conquered forts like Torna, Chakan, Kondana, Thane, Kalyan, and Bhiwandi. At that time these forts were ruled by Mulla Ahmed. Shivaji Maharaj included all these forts in the Maratha Empire.

Shivaji’s Raj Abhishek and Chhatrapati title
Shivaji Maharaj defeated many Mughal rulers. Seeing his power, the Mughal Sultanate was shaken. Then the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb sent a warrior Jai Singh. With this Shivaji was defeated in the war. Shivaji had to give 23 forts to the Mughal Sultanate after his defeat. After a few years, Shivaji fought again and won back all his 23 forts. At that time Aurangzeb did not have yodha Jai Singh. Aurangzeb sent his two warriors Dawood Khan and Mohabbat Khan to fight with Shivaji. But alas they both also failed.
Meanwhile, the Sultan of Bijapur died. Due to this, the Bijapur Sultanate started to weaken. Then on 6 June 1674, the Raj Abhishek of Veer Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took place in Raigad. After a long time, a king in India was coronated according to Hindu customs. Shivaji Maharaj was not only a great warrior but also a wise ruler. He had abolished caste, religious discrimination in his Maratha Empire. Chhatrapati Shivaji was the first to build a navy in India. Due to these good deeds, he got the title of Chhatrapati.
Death of Shivaji Maharaj
At the age of 50, Shivaji Maharaj had established his kingdom even outside the Maratha Empire. In 1680, he had 300 forts and an army of one lakh soldiers. In the early 1680s, Shivaji’s health was not going well. He was suffering from fever and dysentery. He died suddenly on 5 April 1680. The cause of his death is believed to be fever and dysentery. But it is also said that the assassination was hatched by his ministers. The reason for this was that some of Shivaji’s decisions were not liked by his ministers.
