What is the secret of Uttarayan and Dakshinayana?
Uttarayan is the day of the deities and Dakshinayana is the night. There are more auspicious activities in Uttarayan than in Dakshinayana. They give great results. Lord Krishna has said in the Gita that Uttarayan has a special significance. The person who gives up his life in Uttarayan attains salvation. This was the reason that Bhishma Pitamah also kept waiting for Uttarayan from Dakshinayana. Dakshinayana begins when the Sun enters Cancer. Uttarayan begins as soon as the Sun enters Capricorn.
